Sessions

Piano Expressions follows the Brownsburg school calendar. The year is divided into four sessions, plus a separate summer session during the months of June and July. The studio is closed the weeks of fall break, Christmas break, and spring break. Please see the schedule below for specific dates.

Session 1

August 3rd - October 1st

(8 weeks for Monday students, 9 weeks for Tuesday-Thursday students)

No lessons on September 7th (Labor Day)

Session 3

January 4th - March 4th

(9 weeks)

Spring Break: Weeks of March 22nd AND March 29th

Summer Session

May 24th - July 22nd

(9 weeks - a minimum of 3 lessons is required to reserve your spot for the 2027/2028 school year - these can be taught as three 30-minute lessons or two 45-minute lessons)

Session 2

October 5th - December 17th

(9 weeks for Monday students, 8 weeks for Tuesday-Thursday students)

Fall Break: Weeks of October 12th AND October 19th
No lessons on November 24th-26th (Thanksgiving Break)
Christmas Break: Weeks of December 21st AND December 28th

Session 4

March 8th - May 13th

(8 weeks)

Make-up Weeks

November 24th - reserved for individual makeup lessons

Lesson Fees and Payments

Private 30 minute lessons cost $33. Each additional sibling is charged $30. Tuition is collected quarterly and is due at the first lesson of each session (please see calendar for session dates). An invoice will be emailed two weeks before payment is due. If you begin lessons while a session is in progress, tuition will be prorated to reflect the number of remaining lessons in that period.

Summer scheduling is flexible, however a minimum of three lessons is required to hold your spot for the upcoming school year. After selecting the number of summer lessons you want, an invoice will be sent for the summer session, due at the first summer lesson.

Piano Expressions accepts cash and check payments, as well as PayPal money transfers. Please write checks out to Piano Expressions LLC. PayPal payments can be sent to @PianoExpressionsLLC. Please select “For friends and family” option to avoid additional fees.

Recitals

Piano Expressions organizes performance opportunities throughout the year. An annual Christmas recital as well as an end of the year spring recital are both offered to students free of charge. Due to hosting expenses, additional recital opportunities may cost a student participation fee.

It is not required to participate in recitals, but it is strongly encouraged to join at least one every year. The earlier students begin playing for a live audience, the more confident they become as young musicians and the deeper their sense of fulfillment is felt for sharing music with others. Performance anxiety is highly relatable, but the goal is to make each recital a fun and supportive experience for students.

Makeup Policy

Student missed lessons are non-refundable. Due to limited scheduling availability, student missed lessons are not guaranteed to be made up. A call sheet will be available for families to reference in the event that you would like to coordinate a lesson swap with someone else. If this method does not work, then there are two weeks set aside throughout the school year for individual makeup lessons. The first makeup opportunity occurs during the week of Thanksgiving and the second happens at the end of the school year. If you have missed more than two lessons during the school year, then you forfeit those additional missed lessons. No student missed lessons during the school year will be carried over into the Summer Session. Likewise, no missed summer lessons will be carried over into Session 1.

If Miss Allison must cancel a lesson, then she will be flexible to make it up at your convenience. If you cannot find a compatible time, then that lesson will be credited toward your next tuition payment.

Your weekly piano lesson is a scheduled time that you are reserving with other students coordinated around your time slot. If you arrive to your lesson late, the lesson will still end at its scheduled time and the missed lesson time will not be made up.

If there are known weeks when you have conflicts that don’t align with the piano lesson calendar, you will still need to pay that session’s tuition in full and can later benefit from the makeup weeks set aside at the end of the school year.

Practice Requirements

Just like sports, the only way for students to master a skill and advance is through practice. Practice will not necessarily make us perfect; there’s always room for improvement. But students will noticeably progress by investing focus and effort. Students will also feel a sense of pride when they accomplish a technique or piece of music that was initially difficult for them to learn.

Weekly practice will be formatted differently for each student and a practice plan will be personalized to assist with success. The quality of each practice session is more valuable to our progress than the quantity of minutes spent practicing each week, but some students need to have a timer set to make sure they’re spending enough time at the piano. Others might need to set weekly goals or follow a checklist to ensure they’ve achieved all of their tasks. Most importantly, consistency will show regular improvement.

Teacher Expectations

I will put thoughtful consideration and preparation into every student’s lesson. I will plan lessons and activities that I believe are in the student’s best interest. I will fully engage with each student during the duration of his/her lesson. I will offer helpful practice suggestions and will be encouraging when challenges are presented.

I will host performance opportunities throughout the year for students to share their musical growth with others. I will be available through email or phone conversation to discuss any concerns related to my students.

Student Expectations

Students are expected to be respectfully attentive during their lesson time and to come prepared for each lesson by having practiced with their best effort and completed any written assignments. Students need to responsibly remember to bring all of their music to each lesson. Chewing gum or snacking at the piano is not allowed. Fingernails should be trimmed so that students can properly play with their fingertips.
